The Minister of Education says that teachers with problems related to the new Single Salary Table (TSU) should look to their human resources managers to regularise the situation. For now, Carmelita Namashulua appeals to teachers to remain calm.
Teachers from the city and province of Maputo recently threatened to go on strike, protesting irregularities in the TSU.
Minister of Education Carmelita Namashulua responded by saying that teachers should look to the human resources manager at their workplace to settle their concerns.
“What we say to our colleagues is to calm down. We are structured at the level of our district services; we have human resources managers. Each of us, seeing that there is a problem with the salary, is free to raise their concern with the HR manager, with duly proven evidence. There is a technical team at the government level, which is working to correct these irregularities,” Minister Namashulua said.
Regarding enrolment for the 2023 academic year, the minister said the processes are proceeding without problem.
“No problems have been reported regarding Grade One enrolments yet. This year, for example, we had 91% enrollment for public education. We are sure that, next year, we can have a greater number of children enrolling in Grade One,” the minister said.
Minister Namashulua was speaking in Maputo during the 10th edition of the International Mathematics Olympiad of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries.
The minister said that the International Mathematics Olympiad would encourage young people “to study and investigate”.
“The international Olympiad will encourage boys to study, research and collaborate, because several boys from the CPLP participated, in person and virtually, and boys from all over our country got together, prepared together to participate in a group and, therefore, I congratulate the boys, because they represented the country very well,” the minister said.
Participants representing Mozambique in the Mathematics Olympiad won bronze and silver medals.
