The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) reported this Wednesday that the tropical depression which formed over northern Madagascar on April 19, 2021, has evolved into a tropical storm, called “Jobo”. Current projections indicate that the meteorological system has reached the tropical cyclone stage.
“This system may influence the weather in the north of Cabo Delgado province (Palma, Nangade and Mocímboa da Praia districts), with heavy rains accompanied by severe thunderstorms and strong, gusty winds,” the report announces.
According to INAM, “the system is also expected to reach the coast of the Republic of Tanzania on the 24th or 25th of the current month, and may affect maritime navigation north of the parallel 12 degrees South latitude”.
#Jobo is now a severe TS and can briefly become a TC Thursday. The storm will continue to track toward the WNW and can transition to a depression or low before bring heavy rain to #Tanzania & N #Mozambique this weekend. pic.twitter.com/1OKCp3LaFY

INAM says it will continue to track the phenomenon, and calls on the public to monitor meteorological information and warnings issued by the competent national authorities.
Cyclone #Jobo is off the coast of #Madagascar and will head west into #Tanzania. It will likely strengthen into a cat 1 equivalent cyclone before weakening to a tropical storm equivalent cyclone at landfall. pic.twitter.com/NuMimvemb8

Tropical Cyclone #Jobo has gotten an eye already. It’s nearly a C1 on the SSHWS. More strengthening is possible & later could make a rare landfall as a tropical storm (JTWC) in #Tanzania. The last time that happened was 1952 with a C2 system. #Tropics pic.twitter.com/3CUqvEJbYP
