The trial of Helena Taipo, former Minister of Labour and Ambassador of Mozambique to Angola, and 11 other defendants, will take place in the new KaTembe Judicial Court premises in Maputo.
Recently inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, as part of the opening of the judicial year, the courtroom is big enough to accommodate the 12 defendants and assistants as well as the journalists who will cover the proceedings.
The modern building has two floors, with a general secretariat, two courtrooms, an equal number of registry offices and a magistrates’ office, all duly equipped.
In the trial that begins next Monday, the defendants will respond to the judge of the 8th Chamber of the Judicial Court of the City of Maputo, in the case brought by the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption (GCCC), related to the misuse of 113 million meticais from the Ministry of Labour, specifically from the Directorate of Migrant Labour,
The co-defendants are : Helena Taipo, Anastácio Samuel Zita, José António Monjane, Pedro Taimo, Sidónio dos Anjos Carlos Ribeiro Manuel, Hermenegildo Nataniel Nhatave, Baltazar Teófilo Mungoi, Elsa Maria Elias da Camara Jonas, Alfredo Lucas, Desheng Zhang Zhang, Dalila Zubaida Lalgy and Issufo Francisco Massona.
They have been charged with embezzlement, abuse of trust, economic participation in business, falsification of documents and falsification due to the illicit use of legitimate instruments.
