The public prosecutor of Sofala province, central Mozambique, on Friday announced that the case of the murder of Portuguese citizen Inês Bota in December 2017, was submitted to the criminal court in January but that the trial has yet to be scheduled.
Sofala’s chief prosecutor, Carolina Azarias, said the prosecutor’s office had referred the case to the court in January of this year, and was not aware of the reasons for the delay.
The trial’s delay “is not normal, but the court can probably clarify what is behind this delay,” Azarias said.
Three men were charged with the murder, including the victim’s personal trainer, Azarias added.
The victim, Inês Botas was found dead in the Púnque river, in the Beira district, capital of the Sofala province, with her hands and arms tied.
