The bridge over the Elege [Iledje] river, on the Nicoadala- Namacurra section of the EN1 in Zambézia province, reopened to heavy vehicle traffic this Wednesday.
The reopening is the result of the completion, at dawn this morning, of the assembly of the metal bridge over the river, delegate of the National Roads Administration (ANE) in Zambézia, Jorge Govanhica, said this morning.
“We confirm here that road traffic has already resumed on National Road Number One (EN1) on the section between Nicoadala and Namacurra,” Govanhica said.
“At approximately 1:00 a.m., we managed to restore transitability, starting first with the light traffic accumulated there, interspersed with some heavy traffic. We continued to monitor the performance of the bridge all night, and we will be here monitoring the movement of vehicles over the bridge all day today.”
The bridge over the Iledje river was destroyed more than a week ago [on March 19, Saturday] by rains accompanying Tropical Cyclone Gombe.
