Mozambique: Traffic restrictions in Maputo city until Sunday

Vehicular traffic in parts of Maputo will be restricted from today until Sunday due to Independence Day festivities on 25th June and the arrival in Maputo city, this Wednesday, of the National Unity Roller Skate Marathon.

Some of these restrictions, starting from the Maputo-Matola toll, come into force today (22-06) at 9:00 a.m., other traffic restrictions come into force on Friday (24-06).

Among the thoroughfares affected are Avenida de Moçambique, Avenida Eduardo Mondlane, Avenida Guerra Popular, Avenida Acordos de Lusaka- Praça dos Heróis Moçambicanos, Avenida Julius Nyerere, Avenida 24 de Julho, Avenida Marginal, Avenida 25 de Setembro, Avenida Samora Machel, Rua de Xipamanine and Rua Mateus Sansão Muthemba.

The City Council advises drivers to pay attention to the temporary signage to be placed or to use alternative routes in order to reduce congestion.

It should be noted that the Marathon for the National Unity on Inline Skates began on the 1st of May, at the Unity Bridge, over the Rovuma River, in the province of Cabo Delgado, and the delegation made up of four skaters and five officials is scheduled to pass through the municipality of Maputo today.

Meanwhile, to allow preparations for Independence Day celebrations to go ahead, no traffic has been allowed in the Praça da Independência and the perimeter between Avenida Zedequias Manganhela and the central part of Avenida Samora Machel since Monday (20 June).

Starting on Friday, traffic restrictions will also cover the perimeter between Avenida Karl Marx and Avenida Vladimir Lenine, Avenida 24 de Julho and Avenida 25 de Setembro, and will also affect parts of Avenida Ho Chi Minh, Avenida Josina Machel, Avenida Fernão de Magalhães, Rua Municipal Este and Rua Municipal Oeste.

Restrictions will remain in force until Sunday 26th June.
