Traffic is restricted on Karl Marx Avenue in Maputo city after a tree fell and destroyed part of the road and the central promenade.
Maputo Mayor Eneas Comiche and his entourage went to inspect the damage to Karl Marx Avenue between Ho Chi-Minh and Josina Machel avenues.
Director of Urban Infrastructure for Maputo, Saturnino Chembeze, explained that the incident was caused by river flood waters, a situation aggravated by trenches dug for electricity cables from a nearby substation to the Institute of Sponsorship and Legal Assistance (IPAJ), causing erosion that damaged part of the road and sidewalk.
Councillor Chembeze added that interventions are underway to contain the erosion and minimise further damage, and the [IPAJ building] contractor will undertake the replacement of infrastructure along the entire length of the artery.
As a result of the situation and to facilitate reconstruction, traffic will remain conditioned on Karl Marx Avenue.
