Road works will restrict the flow of traffic on National Road Number 4 (EN4) until the 18th of December, specifically in Section 17, from Ressano Garcia to Moamba, and Section 16, from Moamba to Malhampsene.
Works is underway to improve the road surface, and traffic is subject to a contraflow system, leading to long tailbacks.
One of the drivers affected told ‘O País’ that using the Malhampsene-Ressano Garcia section was very frustrating these days.
Another driver on the Moamba-Maputo section acknowledged that the works needed to be carried out regardless of the constraints to which road users would necessarily be subjected.
Trans African Concessions (TRAC), the EN4 concessionaire, said the works would go ahead, but were conscious that traffic would increase in the coming days.
Director Fenias Mazive said that the works aimed to preserve adequate traffic flow, but that “if we are unable to complete” the works “by the 18th, we will carry on until January”.
Traffic from South Africa across the border at Ressano Garcia tends to intensify at this time of year with the return for the festive season of citizens working there.
