Vehicle circulation between Praça do Destacamento Feminino and the Estação Elevatória Número Dois at the intersection of Arcebispado and Julius Nyerere Avenues will be restricted from tomorrow until October 22, to allow for the installation of new mains drainage.
According to a statement from Maputo City Council and the Water and Sanitation Infrastructure Administration (AIAS), the interventions are part of the rehabilitation and modernization project of the capital’s sewage network, financed by the World Bank.
Sanitation sector authorities recently completed the rehabilitation and requalification works of the Infulene Wastewater Treatment Plant under this initiative, at a cost more than US$15 million.
“The aim is to improve the sanitation infrastructure, and it is necessary to carry out these works along the aforementioned route,” the statement reads.
The note urges drivers to pay attention to the temporary signage that will be placed during the works, as well as to respect the traffic signals along the route. The authorities also recommend the use of alternative routes to minimise inconvenience.
