Three people died following the collapse of a bridge over the Litolange [Ntolange] river in Chimbunila district, Niassa province. This bridge is located on National Road 14 (EN14), which connects the city of Lichinga and the village of Marrupa, passing through the district headquarters of Majune.
The fatal victims are the owner of the truck that plunged into the river, a logger of Tanzanian origin who came from the forests of Revia Comercial, and two young men who were being transported on a motorbike bound for the village of Malanga, in Majune.
The collapse of the bridge in question is the result of the intense rains that Niassa province has registered since the end of December.
The Secretary of State for Niassa province, Dinis Vilanculos, visited the place to site to learn about about the situation, having assured that the local Government and the National Roads Administration (ANE) will combine efforts to restore road traffic within a short period of time, speaking of the reopening of an old detour, used in 2018 when the EN14 road was built.
The ANE delegate in Niassa, Oresta Zezela, assured, on the occasion, that a metal bridge will be erected shortly, with the contractor for the work already on site.
Road traffic on National Road Number 14 (Lichinga-Majune section) is currently interrupted.
