Mozambique: Tourism resumes in Chimanimani National Park, Manica province

Mozambique’s Chimanimani National Park, in the central province of Manica, is receiving tourists again after a seven-month interruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Domestic tourism in compliance with coronavirus prevention measures is to the fore, according to Chimanimani National Park administrator Leonel Massicame.
Massicame says that the Park is taking in ten tourists at a time, who go on to climb Mount Binga, view the cave paintings and waterfalls, and marvel at the Chimanimani Gorge, among other attractions.
Covering more than 2,300 square kilometres, Chimanimani National Park is seriously threatened by poaching and wildfires, a dearth of rangers making it difficult to monitor the Park, where approximately 5,000 people live.
Chimanimani has about a thousand species of plants, and is classified as an outstanding area of biodiversity.
