The French oil and gas company, Total Energies, which heads the Mozambique LNG Project, located in Palma district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, has denied alleged non-compliance with agreements aimed at promoting the development of the local population.
The alleged non-compliance with agreements follows complaints by residents of Palma district, who claim that Total Energies is discriminating against almost all of the companies subcontracted by the Mozambique LNG project and their workers at the camp, where the project budgeted at around 20 billion dollars will be resumed.
According to Total Energies Country Chair, Maxime Rabiloud, who was speaking on Monday, in Maputo, after the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the National Agency for Integrated Development of the Northern region (ADIN), “the company does everything possible to promote the development of the local population.”
“I heard that we’re operating in isolation. Perhaps this is a misunderstanding of what we’re doing to prepare for the project’s relaunch, which involves a significant increase in activities. Therefore, it’s very important that all the companies involved in the launch are well prepared and in the same location to ensure they can work effectively and ensure a quality restart”, he said.
Rabiloud explained that his company continues favouring the agreements “with the people of Palma, and now we are doing much more due to the project’s resumption and we have clarified our commitment to continue working with these people.”
