Mozambique: 29 confirmed mpox cases, including the first in Maputo province
More than 50 African health ministers and other medical experts are expected in the Mozambican capital Maputo in November to share experiences on measures to combat epidemics around the continent, an official said on Tuesday. Director general of Mozambique’s National Institute of Health, Ilesh Jani, said communicable and transboundary diseases will take centre stage when the ministers converge in the southern African country for the 7th Scientific Conference of the African Network for Field Epidemiology (AFENET) and 3rd Roundtable of Health Ministers between 11 and 16 November.
“As you know diseases know no boundaries and, therefore, during this conference we will discuss the scientific experiments and work of several African countries as well as find out how epidemiologists are dealing with disease control across Africa,” Jani told APA in Maputo.
The official stressed that the conference will be an opportunity for Mozambique to highlight issues of public health concern in the country.
“On the sidelines of the conference, study visits will be organised to scientific and public health institutions and, in doing so, we will create an environment in which Mozambican professionals can gather the opinion and experience of colleagues from other countries,” he said.
The conference is being organised by the Mozambican Ministry of Health in partnership with AFENET and will be held under the theme “Building Sustainable and Resilient Health Systems in Africa through Training in Field Epidemiology”.
