The government of the province of Maputo is reinforcing control over the circulation of cargo trucks in this part of the country, aiming to reduce damage to the roads, the rehabilitation of which already absorbs a lot of expenditure every year.
Government spokesperson for the tenth session of the Provincial Executive Council, Ludgero Gemo, says that the government has been seeing damage to the main highways that could be avoided by respecting the load limits already established.
However, Gemo says, some truck drivers violate the load restrictions, leaving the roads increasingly precarious and in need of rehabilitation.
The government moreover points out that budgetary limitations are also delaying intervention works on already damaged highways at some levels.
