The Health Sector expects to receive at least three thousand units of blood in the coming days to meet the current demand for this resource, driven by the increase in trauma patients due to the festive season and ongoing protests.
In this context, Health Minister Armindo Tiago launched the “Solidarity for Life” blood donation campaign on Saturday in Maputo. The campaign will take place in all provinces of the country, with donation points established in various locations, particularly in major cities.
Speaking at the event, the Health Minister explained that the number of trauma patients has increased due to the critical situation in the country. Consequently, the demand for blood in hospitals has also risen, and it is up to the health sector to ensure more lives are saved when the resource is needed.
“We believe that everyone in the country will join the campaign. We aim to collect a minimum of three thousand units,” he stated.
He added that the goal is expected to be achieved by mid-next month, which will not only save lives but also inspire a culture of donation and raise awareness about the importance of being part of this solidarity movement. He acknowledged the efforts of the National Blood Service (SENASA) and provincial health directorates in organizing and managing the campaign, as well as the donors’ gesture of turning despair into hope and suffering into joy.
“While we are committed to working tirelessly to ensure no patient loses their life due to a lack of blood, I appeal to every Mozambican to participate in this campaign. Together, we can build a future where blood donation is seen as a civic duty and an expression of humanity,” he concluded.
