CTA: Accounts and Álvaro Massingue ‘dossier’ could halt election – Notícias
The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) is meeting in Maputo since this morning for a general assembly to elect a new president of the association.
However, information gathered by ‘Notícias Online’ indicates that the electoral process has not yet begun, as the preliminary procedures are currently underway, with the agenda for the session still to be approved.
Among the issues delaying the start of the proceedings are the ‘dossier’ on Álvaro Massingue and the failure to present the accounts report for the previous term, led by Agostinho Vuma.
“This cannot continue. It is essential that the accounts are presented so that we can move forward,” one of the members present said to our reporter.
Currently, the more than 170 delegates with voting rights have two candidates to lead the institution, namely Lino Candeeiro and Maria Abdula.
The meeting is taking place in a hotel in the Mozambican capital, under strict security measures, and journalists were prevented from entering the room where the meeting is taking place.
CTA disobeys court and organizes elections without Álvaro Massingue – CanalMoz
The elections for the new governing bodies of the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) are currently taking place at the VIP Hotel in Maputo.
In flagrant disregard of four court decisions, the CTA definitively prevented the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM) and Álvaro Massingue from being candidates.
However, CanalMoz learned that as soon as the process began, this morning, the Chamber of Commerce and Álvaro Massingue submitted an urgent request to the public prosecutor’s office for the arrest of the president of the CTA’s electoral commission, Lino Mondlane, for the crime of flagrant disobedience.
This is equivalent to saying that, at any time, the police should be able to enter the hotel and arrest the president of the electoral commission, who has been disobeying the court’s orders with impunity since April.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the trial of Agostinho Vuma, the president of the CTA, who is also accused of the crime of disobedience, was due to commence. Agostinho Vuma did not appear in court and asked for the trial to be postponed.
CTA elections: Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique files criminal complaint and requests the arrest of all members of CTA Electoral Commission – Integrity
The Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM) has submitted a criminal complaint of the utmost urgency to the Honourable Public Prosecutor in the Municipal District of Kampfumo, in the City of Maputo, for the arrest in flagrante delicto and seizure of assets of Lino Mondlane, Chairman of the Board of the Electoral Commission of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), plus Luís Zandamela and Baptista Macuvele in their capacity as members of the same body.
In the document in our possession, the CCM lawyers request their arrest for the crime of disobedience, provided for and punished under article 353 of the Penal Code (PC), in conjunction with article 387/A of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC). The CCM lawyers state that the arrest and seizure of assets aim to safeguard the [CTA] elections, which are scheduled for this Wednesday, so that they do not take place under the management of the accused, since they are in control of the ballot boxes, ballots, lists, notebooks and other documents or instruments intended for the conduct of the electoral act.
The CCM lawyers denounce the disobedience of court decisions, even with regular and personal notification of the decision to the CTA and, through this, to the members of the Electoral Commission, as conscious and organized refusal to comply with the court order by the accused, for which they demand that the judicial authorities act immediately.
The ‘confusion’ at the CTA seemed to have been overcome until in the early hours of Monday, when a new decision by the Electoral Commission created new chaos. Even on Wednesday, the day set for the elections, the CCM expected to be given space, but as we have noted, the doors are closed to the press.
Candidates for the presidency of the CTA are Lineu Candieiro, Maria Assunção Abdula and the constantly contested list of the CCM, represented by Álvaro Massingue.
