President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, says that there are organizations already being brought to justice for supporting those protesting against the electoral results, “offering them food, water and even money”. Nyusi characterizes such support as naive.
The President of the Republic this morning held a meeting with the rectors of universities and higher public and private institutes, to canvas their ideas on possible solutions to the current post-election crisis.
The head of state says that it will be necessary, in the future, to think about stabilizing electoral legislation, to avoid there being a review of the electoral package every time elections are held.
Filipe Nyusi says that the early proclamations of victory in the elections by some candidates was one of the causes of the demonstrations, which were previously non-violent.
Venâncio Mondlane’s communication did not tend towards peaceful demonstrations, Nyusi said. “Saying that we have to demonstrate in certain places is instigating violence. Then, they are no longer passive manifestations,” he remarked.
According to Nyusi, who was addressing an audience made up of leaders of higher education institutions, preventing the movement of people, blocking roads, looting businesses, preventing exams and other actions can no longer be considered demonstrations, much less peaceful ones.
“There is a naive solidarity from people who support the protesters, offering them food, water and even money (…) and, speaking of which, there are already organizations brought to Justice because of these actions.”
