Three hundred and forty-seven Renamo officers today officially passed into civilian life within the scope of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process, bringing the total number of former combatants demobilised to 5,221.
This event marks the closure of the 16th, and last, Renamo base. The President of the Republic and the President of Renamo asked, on the occasion, for tolerance and mutual understanding in order to achieve peace.
According to the President of the Republic, peace must continue and Mozambicans must walk hand in hand, because the prevalence of definitive peace depends on everyone.
“Our effective tool will always be and should be dialogue, so let’s not let violence and blackmail destroy the bridges of understanding that we are building together,” said Filipe Nyusi.
On his turn, the leader of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, appealed to the demobilized fighters to remain faithful to the ideas of André Matsangaíssa and Afonso Dhlakama and to the party.
