Residents of the Chingodzi neighbourhood in Tete city are complaining about environmental pollution, supposedly caused by the buses from the Unitrans transport company that provides services to the Indian mining company Vulcan Moçambique.
The excessive dust caused by the circulation of light vehicles and buses is putting at risk the safety and health of the neighbourhood, residents claim.
“We feel sick because of the dust. We can’t even sit outside,” one resident said. Another resident complains about worsening respiratory problems.
Ernesto Baloi lives near the bus route and always wears a mask because of the dust and exhaust fumes.
Residents say they have tried to talk to the authorities about the situation, but without success.
O País contacted the Mozambican National Agency for Environmental Quality Control (AQUA) and the Municipality of Tete, but both declined to provide clarification on the matter.
