The health sector in the district of Tete is stepping up awareness-raising activities in communities with a view to preventing an outbreak of mpox cases.
Ongoing activities include awareness-raising talks on improving public health and explanations of the symptoms of the disease, which poses a threat given the emergence of new cases on the African continent.
The director of Health, Women and Social Welfare Services, Sérgio Moroe, explained that the concern arises because Tete is a travel hub for several destinations, given the province’s shared border with countries such as Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
