Terrorists are on the run, with supplies scarce and financiers no longer making payments like they used to, according to a woman who escaped from Manilha in Mocímboa da Praia district, where she was being held captive by the terrorists.
The woman said that there was a meeting recently between the terrorists and an individual of Tanzanian nationality, who is believed to be the leader of the group. The Tanzanian said that he was no longer able to continue financing the attacks, as there was no money left.
She said that the meeting ended in disarray, with the Tanzanian advising Mozambican members to return to their places of origin, because there were no more supplies, to which they replied that they could not return to their communities because they feared for their lives.
The informant said that the terrorist bases could not hold out any longer, because the terrorists and their families (some reportedly took wives and children to these bases) are starving, and have nowhere to plunder for food, local populations having abandoned the area altogether.
