A group of terrorists on Monday attacked Mueia village, in Nangade district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, and seized belongings of the local residents.
According to local sources cited in Wednesday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, over ten armed men entered the village in the early hours of last Monday, shooting at no apparent target, but enough to create panic among the residents, who fled.
“Some people arrived in the village from the outlying hamlets, because since there have been reports of bandits on the move”, said a source.
The terrorists also burned down houses and stole food from the villagers. As a result of the attack, most of the population of Mueia was forced to take refuge in Nangade town, where they were sheltered by their relatives.
Also on Monday, the terrorists burned down two churches and 95 houses in the communities of Nkole and Ngura, in Ancuabe district, and blocked national road number 14, which links Montepuez district to Pemba city, the Cabo Delgado provincial capital.
