Mozambique: “Terrorists must lay down their weapons and surrender to the authorities”- PRM commander

The General Commander of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, Bernardino Rafael, has invited terrorists operating in Cabo Delgado to lay down their weapons and surrender freely to the authorities, as part of their journey towards social reintegration.

Bernardino Rafael’s invitation was made this Friday at a meeting with the public in Macomia district headquarters in Cabo Delgado.

Rafael stressed that those who surrendered would be forgiven for their crimes.

“They are trained terrorists: they kill, burn houses, damage the population’s assets. Perhaps because the leaders themselves, the bosses, force them to do so. Give it up! You can go home too! Return and you will be welcomed. Nobody will kill you. The Defence and Security Forces are not going to kill you, we are just going to hand them over to the government and the government will treat you with dignity, as human beings, as Mozambican sons,” he said.

People taking part in the meeting expressed gratitude to the Defence and Security Forces and foreign troops for their commitment to restoring peace and security in areas affected by terrorists.

O Comandante-Geral da Polícia da República de Moçambique convida os terroristas, que actuam em Cabo Delgado, a deporem as armas e se entregarem livremente às autoridades, visando a sua reintegração social.

O convite de Bernardino Rafael foi feito, esta sexta-feira, num encontro que manteve com a população da sede distrital de Macomia, em Cabo Delgado, frisando que serão perdoados pelos crimes cometidos.

“ Aqueles são terroristas treinados, matam, queimam casas, estragam bens da população. Talvez porque os próprios líderes, os chefes lhes obrigam a fazer isso. Desistam disso ! Podem voltar também para casa ! Regressem e vão ser recebidos. Ninguém vai vos matar. As Forças de Defesa e Segurança não vão vos matar, apenas vamos entregar ao governo e este, condignamente, vai vos tratar como seres humanos, como filhos moçambicanos“ , disse.

Alguns populares que intervieram no encontro, manifestaram a sua gratidão às Forças de Defesa e Segurança e tropas estrangeiras, pelo seu empenho no restabelecimento da paz e segurança, nas zonas afectadas pelos terroristas.
