Two people died in the village of Ngalonga, Nangade district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, victims of terrorist attack in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the online newspaper Carta de Moçambique, during the incursion terrorists beheaded the bodies of both victims. Meanwhile, other people sustained minor injuries during their escape.
“Several children who had disappeared following the terrorist attack did not return to their families until around noon. Before their retreat, the assailants also stole goods from the population. Ngalonga is about 25 kilometres from the village of Ntoli, which last week suffered two attacks carried out by terrorists who still roam in that district”, reports Carta de Moçambique.
According to the sources in Nangade, small groups of terrorists continue to attack the less protected communities in the district, causing more concern within the communities.
Cabo Delgado is rich in natural gas, but it has been under terror attacks since 2017 by armed groups, with some claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
Terrorist attacks have already caused the death of about 4,000 people, according to the ACLED conflict registration project. There are another 900,000 displaced people who were forced to seek shelter in safer places triggering a humanitarian crisis.
