Terrorist groups, inspired by Islamic fundamentalism, attacked two villages in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado last Thursday, but without causing any fatalities, according to a report in Tuesday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Mocambique”.
In Manilha, in Mocimboa da Praia district, the insurgents attacked a bus that was travelling between Awasse and Mocimboa own. They injured two of the passengers and the driver’s mate.
In Litingina village, in Nangade district, the attackers burnt down huts and destroyed other property belonging to the villagers. They also vandalised classrooms in the local primary school and the house of the school director.
It seems that nobody was present in Litingina at the time, since the villagers have taken to sleeping in the bush to avoid attacks.
Shots were heard in the area at about 08.00 on Saturday, believed to indicate a clash between the defence and security forces and the terrorists.
