The Mozambican National Road Transport Institute (INATRO) intends to build “state-of-the-art” smart centres for driver’s licence exams, according to a public tender for the project launched by the entity.
The objective is to build centres in Maputo city (lot 1) and province (lot 2), both “turnkey” projects.
In addition to classrooms and test rooms, the project involves, in each of these exam centres, among other things, the construction of “tracks and driving test routes”, incorporating “road conditions and scenarios in accordance with the best international practices”.
The public tender for this project runs until November 5, according to the announcement by Inatro.
The road accident rates in Mozambique are classified as “dramatic” by several organizations. Authorities have pointed to speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol as the main causes of accidents in the country.
The country has recorded more than 4,800 deaths in road accidents in the last five years, according to data released in May by the government, which called for all of society to mobilise in stopping the carnage.
