The tender for the award of rehabilitation works on National Road Number One (EN1) will be launched in May 2022.
The work will take place in three critical sections: Pambara—Save, Save—Inchope and Inchope—Caia.
The announcement was made this Saturday by the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, who visited the critical parts of the national road.
Observing that the EN1 was of vital importance to the country’s economy, Minister Mesquita said that the process of mobilising US$750 million for the rehabilitation of the road was well in hand.
“We have already been working intensively to mobilise these funds as swiftly as possible because, as was mentioned by His Excellency the President of the Republic, the work has to start within this five-year period. We will be asking for the collaboration of all parties, but particularly of users of this road, that they have a little more patience, because the objective is certainly to improve substantially the infrastructure we are visiting today,” he said.
Minister Carlos Mesquita also referenced the possibility of placing tolls along the national road after its rehabilitation.
