According to a press release, Maleiane challenged the new appointee to maximise revenue collection for the stat.
Minister Maleiane also cited rigour, exemplary compliance with procedures and team work as “key vectors” for the achievement of the desired objectives, Carta de Moçambique reports.
Canal de Moçambique points out that new Director- General of Customs comes from the military.
“After two weeks of nervousness at the institution, Filipe Nyusi has appointed Taurai Inácio Tsama to the disputed position of Director-General of Customs to replace Ally Mallá who fell, with his entire team, on May 22, in culmination of disagreements considered “irreconcilable” with the president of the Mozambican Tax Authority, Amélia Nakhare,” reads the Canalmoz report.
According to the same source.” last week saw days of widespread concern at the Tax Authority, with the names of several staff members offered indiscriminately on social networks. Cadres considered “eligible for succession” saw their names torn to shreds on social media in an all-out war to occupy the vacancy.”
“But against all expectations, the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, decided to appoint Taurai Inácio Tsama, a National Defence Forces officer who came to the Tax Authority as an instructor from the General Command of the PRM, within the scope of cooperation between the military and paramilitary forces ,” Canalmoz reports.
