Sant’Egidio community willing to support peacekeeping in Mozambique

A 40-year-old Tanzanian man detained last week in Mecula district, Niassa province, stands accused of possessing prohibited weapons and unauthorised hunting. The man, A. Mairose, was found in possession of an AK-47-type 3581 firearm, 40 rounds of ammunition, three bicycles, two mobile phones and four pans, the police said.
According to the press release sent to ‘Carta de Moçambique’, the poacher was at the time accompanied by seven other Tanzanians, currently at large.
On the 5th of October, rangers in the Niassa Special Reserve dismantled 427 snares in the regions of Chamba and Milepa – 207 intended for the capture of large animals and 220 for small and medium-size ones. Sixty nailed wooden planks used by poachers were also found.
