At least 13 audio-visual and cinematographic initiatives will receive funding from a global fund in Mozambique worth 6.5 million meticais (€86,000), the Mozambican government announced today.
According to the results of the competition for the selection of projects, released by the National Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (INICC) of Mozambique, an entity subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Culture, four short film production projects were approved for funding, as was the production of music videos.
In the documentary production category, two initiatives were approved: one project for the production and staging of theatre plays and two film screening projects.
The 6.5 million meticais fund was announced by the Mozambican government in October of last year.
This is the second support and financing competition launched by INICC Mozambique, which aims to encourage and support the dissemination and internationalization of Mozambican culture.
“The launch and provision of 6.5 million meticais for this second edition is a fact that we are very proud of,” the then Minister of Culture and Tourism, Eldevina Materula, said during the competition launch ceremony in Maputo, on October 16, 2024.
“This edition will cover the entire country and aims to support or finance film production with a focus on new talents and first works, production of music videos, distribution and exhibition of audio-visual and cinematographic works,” Minister Materula said.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism launched the first edition of the competition in 2020, having at that time made five million meticais (€66,200) available to support the sector.
