The Speaker of Mozambique’s National Assembly, Veronica Macamo, has expressed interest in improved relations with the Zambian parliament to accelerate mutual cooperation to boost the exchange of good parliamentary practices, APA can report on Sunday.
Speaking at a media briefing in Maputo on Sunday, moments after receiving in audience, the High Commissioner of Zambia to Mozambique, Paul Lumbi, Macamo said there should be greater dynamism and efficiency of cooperation between the two parliaments and an instrument is needed to create the terms of cooperation.
Macamo said the Mozambican parliament has exchanged correspondence with its Zambian counterpart, not only through parliamentary groups, but also using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
“One of the things that matters is to sign an instrument that can excel and normalize relations between the two parliamentary institutions, and I believe we will have it in the coming years,” Macamo pointed out.
She added that to achieve this goal, she will need assistance from the High Commissioner, who delivered his credentials to the Mozambican people, through the Speaker.
Macamo stressed that bilateral relations between Mozambique and Zambia have greater dynamism at government level.
“Bilateral relations are only incremented at the level of government, but should be pursued at parliamentary level that not only allows the exchange of good practices but rather the defense of regional interests in international organizations” she posited.
Macamo stressed that, at parliamentary level, the exchange of good practice is still at the level of Information and Communication Technologies.
In turn, Lumbi concurred to draw up an agreement between the parliaments of both countries.
“We came here to realize what kind of experience we have of the Mozambican parliament, however we came to the conclusion that the way how the Mozambican parliament does not differ much in the way that ours works” he said.
In addition to the parliamentary cooperation, the diplomat pointed out areas for future collaboration including the economy, especially the hydrocarbon sector.
