Mozambique: Podemos demands prosecution of soldiers who ran over young woman
Spain is available to help Mozambique to increase its decentralisation process through the exchange of experiences between the two countries, the president of the Spanish Congress, Ana Pastor said, cited by Mozambican daily Notícias.
“Spain is contributing its experience to the process of decentralisation in Mozambique,” said Pastor, speaking after being received in audience by the Mozambican head of state Filipe Nyusi in Maputo.
The president of the Spanish parliament said her country had received members of the Mozambican parliament who learned about the process of decentralisation in Spain.
“Parliamentary delegations visited Spain and we conveyed our experience of decentralisation, based on our Constitution, which may help Mozambicans,” Pastor said.
Cooperation with Mozambique, she continued, can be beneficial to the Mozambican peace process, and she welcomed the progress made in the African country towards the establishment of a lasting peace.
The leaders of the parliamentary benches of the ruling Mozambican National Liberation Front (Frelimo), opposition party the National Mozambican Resistance (Renamo), and the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM), the third largest party, have agreed for provincial governors to be elected from 2019, within the scope of a one-off review of the Constitution of the Republic in order to increase decentralisation.
The proposed constitutional review also outlines the election of local authorities by proportional representation selected from list put forward by the parties or groups of citizens, also starting in 2019, and the election of district administrators, from 2024.
