The South Korean government on Friday provided US$89 million (75 million euros) to support the implementation of the second phase of the Public Security Information and Management System [Sistema de Informação e Gestão de Segurança Pública ] project in Mozambique.
The project aims to build modern control rooms and set up surveillance equipment in the city of Nampula and Nacala-Porto, in the north of the country, said Yeo Sung Jun, South Korea’s ambassador to Mozambique.
The diplomat was speaking in Maputo during the signing of the agreement to implement the project with the Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Veronica Macamo.
“I am sure that the residents of Mozambique will live in safer conditions with the effects of this project,” Yeo Sung Jun said.
The Mozambican government thanked the gesture, considering it an important support for the security area in the country.
“We thank the Government and people of the Republic of South Korea for this support to our country in such a sensitive and important area as public security,” said the head of Mozambican diplomacy.
