Mozambique: South African citizen handed 14-year jail term for attempted kidnapping

The sixth Criminal Section of the Maputo City Judicial Court this week sentenced a 56-year-old South African to 14 years in prison for kidnapping and possession of prohibited weapons.

Patrick Vusumuzi Skosana was tried within the scope of Criminal Case no. 7/2024. He was accused of the crime of prohibited weapons, punishable under the terms of No. 1 of article 226, in addition to a crime of kidnapping that occurred in the attempted form, inside the Cinema Charlot in Maputo city, on October 3, 2023, punishable under articles 197, 17 and 18 of the Penal Code, respectively.

Two pistols, a cell phone and a Sienta Toyota car were seized upon Skosana’s arrest, and returned to the Mozambican state.
