Launching a brand-new office in Maputo is a significant milestone in the long-term strategic vision for the Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investments Company (ROMPCO), comments CEO Mlandzeni Boyce.
“Establishing the new Maputo office is fully aligned with our long-term energy security goals as it reinforces our strategic focus on sustainability, reliability, and regional integration in the energy sector. It also supports our goal of ensuring a stable, uninterrupted energy supply, not only for Mozambique but for the entire Southern African region,” explains Boyce.
As the company is planning to increase its footprint through building new infrastructure, a local office will enable ROMPCO to manage its operations more effectively, improve risk management, and anticipate market and infrastructure needs more proactively. “It reflects our commitment to strengthening our presence in Mozambique, which is an important market for our operations,” adds Boyce.
The office positions ROMPCO to better serve its customer base and stakeholders in Mozambique, allowing it to respond more effectively to local needs and market dynamics. It is also a crucial step in aligning with Mozambique’s ongoing economic growth and infrastructure development, enabling ROMPCO to play an even more pivotal role in the energy sector, particularly as it continues to expand and innovate in gas transportation and distribution.
Boyce explains that, over the years, ROMPCO has been leveraging the existing synergies between its shareholders amongst others and its local stakeholders. “This is a brand-new office in Maputo,” highlights Boyce. Up to now the team in Mozambique has been working from home. Establishing the new office will strengthen ROMPCO’s brand presence and allow us to attract and retain talent in Mozambique.
“By having a dedicated presence on the ground, we will be able to streamline our operations, improve the coordination of projects, and engage more directly with stakeholders in both the public and private sectors,” says Boyce. The Maputo office will serve as a critical platform to deepen ROMPCO’s relationships with local stakeholders, including government authorities, business partners, and community leaders.
The new office will also serve as a base to expand ROMPCO’s CSI initiatives in Mozambique, enabling closer engagement with local communities to address their specific needs through targeted education, health, infrastructure, and other social development initiatives.
Looking at ROMPCO’s goals for the new Maputo office in 2025, Boyce says the main focus is to onboard the team and foster a local culture aligned with the broader company culture. “We will engage with key customers, ensure localised support, and strengthen our credibility within the region. We will establish connections with local distributors, suppliers, industry associations, and other strategic partners to gain competitive advantages and expand our network,” concludes Boyce.
