A water crisis in Machaze, Manica province, has left some villagers travelling more than 15 kilometres in search of the precious liquid, and putting themselves at risk of attack by crocodiles and hippos in the rivers.
The government is aware of the problem and has already started to build water supply sources.
In the district of Machaze, having a bicycle at home is a luxury. It is the main means of transport used to fetch water, often found in rivers far from home. Joyce Faduco travels around 15 kilometres every day in search of water for consumption and hygiene.
The regions of Mavende and Matuca were once the most hard hit. There, however, the governor of Manica recently inaugurated two water supply systems with a capacity of 30,000 litres each and with facilities for laundry and animal watering.
For residents there, having water is a dream come true.
The water supply systems in Machaze were financed by the Office for Post-Cyclone Reconstruction (GREPOC), with an investment of just over 20 million meticais.
