Mozambique’s national criminal investigation service (Sernic) in Sofala province on Monday incinerated over 180 kilos of drugs seized in the first half of the year which saw 74 people arrested in the province in the centre of the country, an official source told Lusa.
The drugs were 187 kilos of cannabis, 107 grams of heroin and 18 grams of cocaine seized between January and June of this year in Buzi district and in the city of Beira, the provincial capital of Sofala, said Alfeu Sitoe, spokesman for the Sernic in the province.
“In connection with drugs 74 people have been arrested and 34 criminal cases were drawn up, of which 27 are already in the public prosecutor’s office and seven are still being prepared,” the spokesman said.
Mozambique is pointed out by several international organisations as a transit corridor for international drug trafficking to Europe and the United States, mainly of heroin from Asia.
