The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) is urging people living in low-lying areas of Sofala province to take precautionary measures regarding rising water levels in the Zambezi, Búzi, Punguè and Save rivers.
Weather forecasts indicate that some river basins will overflow due to recent rain, which could cause flooding in Chemba, Caia, Marromeu, Nhamatanda, Búzi and Beira districts.
The head of the INAM Observations and Networks Department in Sofala, Rosita Fernando, said that, at this time of transition from the rainy season, the province could be hit by rain and strong winds.
Fernando said that forecasts suggest the occurrence of storms, some of which could reach cyclone intensity.
