The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) announced yesterday that it had detected cases of irregular payments made to beneficiaries and pensioners of the mandatory Social Security System.
According to an INSS statement, the financial shortfall was discovered by internal audits, and three INSS employees have been detained in connection with the case.
The INSS reports that the payments were “camouflaged” as payments for sickness, maternity, old-age, disability, to survivors and for funeral and death benefits.
The INSS says in the same note that it had already submitted the case to the administration of justice bodies for action.
