President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi asserted yesterday that the situation is relatively calm in Cabo Delgado, despite some sporadic terrorist attacks. Nyusi gave this assurance to an American delegation from the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF Group).
According to President Nyusi, the country is at peace, but there are still some pockets of terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, a phenomenon currently being addressed by the Security Defence Forces.
“We are in a reconstruction phase, although the terrorists still appear. So, perhaps they are listening to us and, tomorrow, they will appear to do something and appear to exist. In Mocímboa da Praia, a town that was abandoned for a long time, the population has already returned,” Filipe Nyusi said.
Speaking about the elections, Nyusi said he hoped that everything would go forward in a festive atmosphere and, above all, that there would be respect for differences and the results.
“We are already preparing and, on Saturday, we will start the electoral campaign of the political parties. Let’s hope that everything goes well and in an atmosphere of peace, tranquillity and celebration,” President Nyusi said.
Regarding the economy, the president said that the country continued to face difficulties, and that there was work to be done by the government.
“From the little that we have, I can say that we are working to provide more water with the support of our friends. We are ensuring more energy, we are very advanced and almost at 63% coverage,” he reported.
Filipe Nyusi was speaking in Maputo this Tuesday to an American delegation from the ICCF Group, which is visiting our country in preparation for a Miombo conference on 23 September in New York.
