At least 17 roads in the city of Maputo have been undergoing maintenance work since last week. The work to improve urban mobility includes filling potholes and cleaning the roads, as part of the Municipal Council’s plan to improve traffic conditions and offer greater safety to drivers and pedestrians.
The roads covered by the project include 24 de Julho, Amílcar Cabral, Acordos de Lusaka, Angola and Rio Tembe avenues. The work also extends to Rua da Imprensa and Rua da Rádio, where traffic conditions are critical.
According to the municipality, the work is essential to prolong the durability of the road infrastructure.”Technical teams are on the ground carrying out the work, and we citizens to cooperate by following the guidelines, especially in places where there are temporary traffic diversions,” the municipality said in a statement.
To ensure the smooth running of the works, traffic officers have been mobilised to coordinate traffic flow and minimise impacts on road users. The municipality is appealing to drivers to respect the provisional signage and use alternative routes whenever possible. “We ask for patience and understanding during this period, as this is a necessary action for the benefit of all,” the note adds.
The works are expected to last several weeks, depending on the weather conditions and the
complexity of the interventions.
