From March of this year, Metrobus and Mozambique Railways will be able to avail themselves of a technical assistance industry for locomotives, wagons, and carriages, if the ongoing rehabilitation of the União Metalúrgica de Moçambique factory (COMETAL) in Matola, Maputo province, is completed in time.
The potential unit will form part of the project for the construction of the railway line shadowing the Maputo Ring Road.
COMETAL’s reactivation also aims to make Mozambican companies a reference on the African continent, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIR Motors, Amade Camal, said.
“This metal-mechanics industry is among the five largest in Africa. We have a responsibility to reinstate this contribution, bringing it back to our industrial sector and starting to train people who can to respond to opportunities,” he said.
