Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) on Friday in Maputo incinerated about 72 kilos of illicit drugs, seized in the course of investigations into drug trafficking.
Briefing reporters at the incineration site, SERNIC spokesperson, Hilario Lole, said that the criminal investigation service was incinerating 2.14 kilos of cocaine, 12.25 kilos of heroin, two kilos of methamphetamine, 39.4 kilos of cathinone (also known as benzoylethanamine), 15.15 kilos of cannabis, 1.04 kilos of ecstasy and a large quantity of syringes.
The latest drug seizure, Lole said, occurred on Tuesday at the warehouse of the Mozambican Post Office, where a consignment from the Netherlands, disguised as chess sets, contained a substance in the form of pills, which laboratory examination concluded were methamphetamine.
“Two individuals, one a 25 year old Mozambican citizen, and the second, a 30 year old Nigerian, are now under police custody in connection with the case,” Lole said.
