Mozambique: Walking the walk to a place among the main coffee producers in Africa

Henriques Bongece, Secretary of State for Maputo Province, highlighted this Thursday, August 7, 2025, the production and productivity levels of macadamia and banana cultivation in Boane district, Maputo province.
The official expressed his impression of the technology used after visiting the plantations of Bananalândia, a company based in Boane district, Maputo province, southern Mozambique, with an area of 600 hectares dedicated to the production of macadamia and bananas.
Henriques Bongece learned that Bananalândia is a regular participant in FACIM and is preparing for its presentation at this year’s edition. Bananalândia wants to expand its banana and macadamia exports, having already sold more than 600 tons abroad this year.
The Head of the Council of State Representation Services in Maputo Province said that Maputo province would continue to stimulate macadamia production, given its importance to economic growth in the province.
Bongece expressed encouragement regarding the commercial production of macadamia nuts and bananas, urging the company to continue producing and creating more jobs for Mozambicans.
In addition to Boane, the Bananalândia Group also owns plantations in Goba and Moamba, in Maputo province, covering a total area of over 1,500 hectares, employing 2,500 permanent workers.
Of the total banana production, 80% is exported to South Africa, Eswatini, Botswana, and the European and Asian markets. Commercial banana plantations are generating considerable employment.
In addition to fruit, Boane district is also notable for its vegetable production.
