The Ministry of Education has found 171 secondary schools in Mozambique’s provincial and district capitals that are in a position to reopen on 27 July, but says that, by that date, at least half of the country’s 677 secondary schools will be ready.
The 171 secondary schools able to reopen represent less than half the 667 secondary education institutions in the country, and one of the reasons for their preparedness is their location in the capitals, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Human Development Gina Guibunda said.
The sector says the creation of conditions for the reopening continues apace, and that, by July 27, at least 300 schools will already be ready for a return to face-to-face classes.
The Ministry of Education and Human Development says it is aware of students’ misgivings regarding the resumption of classes, but guarantees that it is doing everything it can to reduce the risk of contamination as much as possible.
