The second phase of the works to expand the Port of Nacala, in the province of Nampula, will resume this year, Nampula Provincial Director of Transport and Communications Leo Jamal has revealed.
Work was interrupted last year by the Covid-19 pandemic, but the mobilisation of financial and technical resources necessary for the resumption of work is currently underway.
Work was suspended at 30% completion, and much of the platform will be completed this year, while the entire contract will end in 2022.
Leo Jamal also addressed the rehabilitation of the Angoche maritime cabotage port, saying that the construction of one of the three inter-district terminals in that part of the country was among this year’s scheduled activities.
Jamal added that the mobile phone coverage rate in Nampula currently stood at 80%, but would reach 100% by the end of this mandate.
