In the last 24 hours, rain falling in the flood warning system of the main hydrographic basins in Inhambane registered 46.4 mm in Massangena, 31.6 mm in Maxixe, 30.8 mm in Jangamo district and 29.1 mm in Vila Franca do Save.
In the same period, the water level at Vila Franca do Save and Massangena stations, in the Save basin, rose above the alert level in two places. In Massangena, the Save flow reached 4.63 meters, against the 4.50 alert level; and in Vila Franca do Save, the river rose to six metres, against the 5.50 alert level, and is still rising.
If the situation prevails, the villages of Nova Mambone, in Govuro, Inhambane province, and Machanga, in Sofala, could be flooded.
A sharp rise in water levels is expected at all stations in the Save basin over the next 24 hours. At the remaining flood warning system stations in Inhambane, water levels are expected to oscillate, with a slight overall tendency to increase.
