Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for African Affairs, Ahmad Kattan, yesterday condemned the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique, expressing his country’s readiness to offer Mozambique humanitarian assistance.
“Terrorism has no religion, and Saudi Arabia condemns the terrorist actions of which Mozambique is the target. And it completely repudiates these extremist actions,” Minister Kattan said.
Ahmad Kattan was speaking after a meeting with the Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, during his two-day visit to Mozambique, which ended on Wednesday.
For Minister Kattan, the armed attacks carried out by groups classified as terrorists by the authorities, are unjustified.
“These are actions that go against the principles of all religions at international level,” the minister said, expressing Saudi Arabia’s readiness to support Mozambique in assisting displaced populations.
Armed violence in Cabo Delgado has been ongoing for three years, causing a humanitarian crisis with around 2,000 deaths and 500,000 people displaced, without inadequate housing and food, mainly to Pemba, the provincial capital.
