“Sasol’s investment in education represents the company’s commitment to the development of Mozambique,” Ovídio Rodolfo, Sasol Managing Director in Mozambique. This was the keynote from the meeting held on Tuesday, November 2, at Maputo Office, to welcome ten students graduated in Oil and Gas in Malaysia, as part of Sasol’s bursary programme.
The programme to award bursaries to Mozambican students is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Government of Mozambique, through the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, in 2014, to train Mozambicans in the Oil and Gas sector. To date, through this Programme, Sasol has awarded 37 bursaries, being ten to Malaysia, eight to South Africa and 19 to Mozambique.
According to Sasol Managing Director in Mozambique, Ovídio Rodolfo, the company’s strategy is to contribute to the country’s growth, through various human capital development initiatives. “As a company, we are very proud as we feel that we are building an important legacy for Mozambique, through the creation of conditions for the country to have highly qualified people. In addition to the bursaries programme, among other initiatives, we are supporting a Downstream Master’s programme at Eduardo Mondlane University, having already benefited more than 40 students,” he added.
During the same meeting, Sasol also shared that over the past 3 years, through the Field Ready initiative, 107 young graduates have participated in an immersion programme on Oil & Gas Industry practical principles, supported by Sasol and its partners. The programme aimed to present the practical reality of the industry to young graduates, in a complementary action to the theoretical component acquired during their academic training.
Representing Sasol bursary students in Malaysia, Sámia Manhique, expressed the satisfaction of the group of students for the support to graduate from one of the well ranked universities in the world, the University of Petronas. “We want to express our deep gratitude for the opportunity we had to graduate in a very strategic area for our country. We are very grateful to Sasol for this important initiative,”
On the occasion, Sasol reiterated that its action aims to train staff to serve the country, not limited to its operations. Therefore, the graduates of the scholarship programmes have been absorbed by the company’s operations, but also by other companies, where they have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Mozambique.
