Russia and Mozambique are studying contracts to improve transport infrastructure in Mozambique, Russia’s ambassador to Mozambique, Alexander Surikov said on Friday.
“Mozambique has many ports and railroads that need new equipment. I am sure there will be progress,” the ambassador in Sochi said in an interview with Russian news agency TASS, on the sidelines of the first Russia-Africa summit that took place on Wednesday and Thursday.
The event served to hold talks on the possibility of cooperation in improving various infrastructures, but no agreement has yet been concluded.
In another dossier, Russia announced that it was studying the creation of industrial zones in Mozambique and Namibia to develop exports to Africa.
“We should create industrial facilities in southern Africa, on the west and east coasts, bearing in mind the logistical advantages” of each country, namely “Mozambique and Namibia,” said the Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov.
The government official was speaking on Thursday in Sochi to TASS, pointing out the case of cooperation with Egypt.
A model project is being developed by Russia in Port Said that provides for the creation of an area with a tax regime that attracts Russian companies.
